FAQ's

Q: Why would I need Physical Therapy?

A:  Physical Therapists are experts in musculoskeletal and movement disorders. We help alleviate pain, restore motion and strength, as well as functional ability. Generally, our patients have experienced an injury, undergone surgery, or have had an exacerbation of a past injury. Many times, a few visits to the Physical Therapist will save you time and money on unnecessary prescription medicine or medical tests.

Q: How long does each visit take?

A: We evaluate each patient individually to determine his or her Physical Therapy needs. Your first visit will generally last an hour. Each visit after the initial will last around 45 minutes. Depending on your needs, you may need Physical Therapy between one to three times per week.

Q: What should I wear to my appointments?

A: We encourage our patients to dress comfortably for their appointments. Generally, our patients dress accordingly for their specific injury. Patients receiving Physical Therapy for their knee are encouraged to wear shorts; those receiving services for a shoulder are encouraged to wear a tank-top or sleeveless shirt.

Q: Do I need a physician’s referral for Physical Therapy?

A: You do not need a physician’s referral to see a Physical Therapist, however, your insurance company may require a physician referral.
For example, Medicare requires a physician’s referral. (Your doctor can fax or phone in your referral for Physical Therapy Services.)
Blue Cross Blue Shield and State Employee’s Health Care, however, do not require a referral.
